Wesfarmers: Supporting AI capability across its workforce and the broader economy

Wesfarmers is investing to build practical AI capability across its workforce, as part of a broader focus on responsible and sustainable AI adoption, anchored to a strong governance framework.

The Group is a founding partner in OpenAI’s Upskilling Australia initiative, alongside the Australian Government, Commonwealth Bank and Coles. The initiative aims to expand access to AI skills across more than 1.5 million Australian workers. As part of this, Wesfarmers is rolling out AI literacy training to its workforce of approximately 118,000 team members, focused on building confidence and practical capability in applying AI tools across a range of roles.

Internally, Wesfarmers has adopted a multi-platform approach, providing access to a range of generative AI tools aligned to specific business needs and supported by structured training programs. Strategic partnerships with Google and Microsoft are also expected to support capability development and productivity improvements across the Group, with flow-on benefits for team members and the communities in which it operates.
