Cochlear has long recognised the potential of AI to transform hearing care and has been investing in research to harness its power—alongside machine learning, big data, cloud computing, and neuroscience—to improve patient outcomes and streamline care for hearing health professionals.
Cochlear sees AI as a key enabler in achieving its mission to help people hear and be heard. The company is targeting long-term growth. Its AI strategy is centred on innovation and scalability. AI already plays an important role in Cochlear® products.
“We view AI as a tool to enhance human expertise in hearing care, not replace it. Through better technology and clinical practice, AI supports improved hearing outcomes and helps us scale and grow our business.”
– Dig Howitt, CEO and President, Cochlear
One existing example of automation is Cochlear’s SCAN technology, which enhances hearing in noisy environments. SCAN technology senses changes in the listening environment and automatically adjusts hearing settings to deliver clearer sound.
Looking to the future, Cochlear is exploring AI capabilities to further improve the experience of implant recipients and create efficiencies for health professionals. These AI applications may include personalised sound processing, AI-assisted fitting, predictive monitoring of device performance, and advanced noise suppression.
