Monash University: MAVERIC, Australia’s largest university-led AI supercomputer

Monash University is advancing Australia’s sovereign AI research capability at scale through MAVERIC, the Monash AdVanced Environment for Research and Intelligent Computing, Australia’s largest university-led AI supercomputer.

Supported by a $60 million investment, MAVERIC addresses a critical gap in the nation’s high performance computing infrastructure, enabling researchers to tackle complex challenges previously beyond reach.

Purpose-built for large scale AI and data-intensive workloads, MAVERIC combines accelerated computing, high speed interconnects and energy-efficient liquid cooling. Delivered in collaboration with NVIDIA, Dell Technologies and CDC Data Centres, the system provides world-class performance with significant water and energy efficiencies.

MAVERIC will unlock breakthroughs across major global health challenges, including early cancer detection, chronic disease treatment, the discovery of new medicines and climate modelling. It also strengthens sovereign capability by ensuring sensitive Australian research data remains securely within national jurisdiction.

By enabling large-scale AI research and attracting global talent and collaborations, MAVERIC is positioning Australia to lead in responsible and high impact AI innovation.

“We want our people – Monash academics, students and our research partners – to be at the forefront of shaping the future of AI; not just in how it’s applied, but in unlocking entirely new possibilities and innovations. Our focus is on solving real problems and putting AI to work in a meaningful way.”
