Submission on the statutory review of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth)
28 November 2022
The Business Council of Australia (BCA) welcomes the opportunity to provide the Government with comments in response to the statutory review of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) (the Act). The BCA has consulted with a range of business leaders from companies across the finance, resources, retail, telecommunications, energy, health, real estate, food and beverage, and technology sectors. Effectively addressing modern slavery risks in operations and supply chains is a high priority for Australian business. There is strong and broad support for clarifying the interpretation of provisions of the Act, enhancing and streamlining the processes required, provision of guidance on expected standards and building the capacity of businesses to fully comply with reporting requirements under the Act.
