The Business Council welcomes the opportunity to engage with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department) on the Safeguard Mechanism Reforms Position Paper.

A reformed Safeguard Mechanism is a critical piece on the overarching policy framework required to achieve Australia’s 2030 and future national determined contributions (NDC).

We fully acknowledge that this as an extremely challenging policy to design and congratulate the government in getting to this point in the policy development process. We offer the following comments in relation to the Safeguard Mechanism reform proposal (the proposal).
