Statement attributed to Business Council President Geoff Culbert and Business Council Chief Executive Bran Black
The Business Council of Australia is working with Australia’s Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism, Jillian Segal on further actions that can be taken by the business community to help stamp out antisemitism.
The horrific terror attack in Bondi was driven by antisemitism and has changed Australia forever.
The actions taken by the Federal Government on hate speech and radicalisation are welcome, as is the appointment of David Gonski to lead a taskforce to ensure the Australian education system teaches young people about antisemitism.
The Federal Government has now adopted the Plan to Combat Antisemitism and is working through the implementation of recommendations with the Jewish community and Special Envoy.
We also welcome the support of the Coalition in establishing a dedicated Taskforce on Antisemitism, Extremism and Counter-Terrorism in response to the escalating threat posed by antisemitism and violent extremism in Australia.
More can be done and the business community has an important role to play.
In early 2026, and working closely with Jillian Segal, we will bring together members of the business community to work through tangible outcomes to support the Jewish community and help stamp out antisemitism in Australia.
We are encouraging everyone to reflect on the critical steps that need to be taken across the entire Australian community.
Our deepest sympathies go to the Jewish community, their families and friends, and all Australians impacted by this terrible terror attack.
