Submission to Senate Standing Committee on the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Climate Trigger) Bill 2020.
13 October 2022
The Business Council has taken a strong position on the need to tackle climate change. This must be targeted and effective. We support better coordination of existing climate policies and agencies is the best way to move forward and make progress towards meeting our emissions reduction targets — including reforming the Safeguard Mechanism to reduce emissions in the industrial sector.
Adding a Climate Trigger into the EPBC Act will only serve to further complicate and frustrate much needed EPBC Act reforms. As outlined in this submission, we do not support the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Climate Trigger) Bill 2022.
