Submission on modernising business registry services

16 September 2017

The Business Council’s submission supports the consolidation of Australia’s 32 federal business registers and improved public access to information contained in business registers.  The proliferation of registries and the inability to easily search for key business characteristics reduces the potential value of these resources.

The submission also supports the creation of a new Small Business Register, as recommended by the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman. A register will make it easier for signatories to the Australian Supplier Payment Code to verify the small business status of suppliers and will facilitate greater take-up of the Code.
