Submission to the Inquiry into Building and Construction Industry Improvement Amendment (Transition to Fair Work) Bill 2009
17 July 2009
The BCA has lodged a submission to the Senate Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Committee inquiry into the Building and Construction Industry Improvement Amendment (Transition to Fair Work) Bill 2009.
It is critical to Australia’s overall capacity to recover and grow, particularly at a time of economic downturn, that the building and construction sector operates effectively and safely. The submission registers the BCA’s concern that the Bill introduces the new concept of exemption from the interrogation powers of the Fair Work Building Industry Inspectorate. It also highlights that there has been a lack of clear and persuasive information provided by the federal government about how the exemption would work or why it is appropriate.
