Business backs focus on housing supply

16 August 2023

Today’s decisions by National Cabinet to drive the delivery of new homes is strongly backed by business, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“We agree there is an urgent need to fix planning systems that are restricting new housing supply and welcome the National Cabinet’s focus on this.

“The Prime Minister is absolutely correct when he says, ‘supply is key’.

“Business applauds the Albanese Government for putting $3 billion on the table to incentivise the states and territories to make this happen.

“We also welcome funding to support infrastructure that facilitates housing delivery, which will also be critical in getting more housing built.

“Businesses have a deep interest in ensuring the availability of well- located, well-serviced and reasonably priced homes for their staff.

“The Business Council has consistently advocated for all levels of government to have a strong focus on the supply of new homes.

“In May this year the Business Council released a report on Housing Australia’s Talent, which called for the reform of planning systems, including federal incentives for states and territories to boost their housing supply and to invest more funds in infrastructure tied to delivering more dwellings.”
