Submission to the Board of Taxation on the Tax Studies Institute
27 February 2012
The Business Council of Australia has lodged a submission to the Board of Taxation on the Tax Studies Institute.
In the submission the council argues that the government’s proposed Tax Studies Institute will need to have a strong mandate and be practically focused if it is to make a valuable contribution to the task of comprehensive long-term tax reform.
This means having full independence and an explicit mandate from government to assist in progressing comprehensive tax reform in the medium term, without the need for a specific reference from government.
Since last year’s tax forum, the BCA has called on the government and parliament to embark on a 10-year reform of the tax system so that it better supports growth, productivity and competitiveness.
