Action Plan for Enduring Prosperity: Planning for Population and Cities

28 August 2013

This booklet, Action Plan for Enduring Prosperity: Planning for Population and Cities, is a chapter of the full report of the Business Council of Australia’s Action Plan for Enduring Prosperity.

The action plan identifies 93 recommendations across nine policy areas that can deliver prosperity through well-managed growth. This booklet is focused on planning for populations and cities.

Australia needs to commit to well-managed population growth and plan now for the changes in the size and the demographic mix of our population that will occur in the future. Australia’s economy will double in size and be home to more than 35 million people by mid-century.

How well we manage that pathway of population and growth will determine the quality and sustainability of our economy, our societies and our environment. The reasons in support of well-managed population growth need to be explained to the community.

The booklet also contains a suggested approach to the phasing of the policy recommendations and an assessment of their ease of implementation versus their overall importance.
