The Business Case for Addressing Mental Health

14 April 2015

Diversity Council Australia (DCA), Business Council of Australia (BCA) and beyondblue have teamed up to help businesses make practical changes to contribute to mentally healthy workplaces.

At a workshop TOMORROW, the three organisations, (led by DCA CEO Lisa Annese, BCA CEO Jennifer Westacott and beyondblue CEO Georgie Harman) will discuss the role of business in driving mentally health workplaces.

The workshop has attracted over 100 Australian business representatives interested in the practical steps they can take to reduce the $10.9 billion impact mental health has on the economy.

Recognising business has an important role to play in tackling mental health, last year beyondblue launched Heads Up. headsup.org.au is a one-stop shop of tips, tools and resources offering practical, cost-effective changes that organisations can make to improve mental health in the workplace and address stigma.

PwC research for Heads Up shows that having a mentally healthy workplace can lead to significant savings across the economy and a return on investment from mental health initiatives of $2.30 for every $1 spent.

At the workshop, Jetstar, NAB and CitiPower will share their experiences of making their workplaces more mentally healthy.

Participants will be invited to sign a Heads Up pledge to outline what steps they’ll take to make a difference in their workplaces.

A Perth workshop is being held in May (visit www.dca.org.au for further details).
