Submission to the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development on coastal shipping reforms
16 May 2017
The Business Council supports the Government’s reform program for the coastal shipping sector and the nine proposed amendments to the Coastal Trading Act 2012 set out in the Coastal Shipping Reforms Discussion Paper (2017).
The changes will create a more streamlined and flexible licensing regime which will help to alleviate high regulatory and shipping costs and boost employment opportunities and economic growth.
We urge the parliament to support these sensible changes to coastal shipping regulation in the interest of a stronger and more competitive Australian economy.
