Submission to the Joint Select Committee Inquiry into Australia’s Clean Energy Future

26 September 2011

The Business Council of Australia has worked with successive governments in an effort to design workable polices for Australia that address risks associated with climate change. With both political parties committed to a reduction in greenhouse gases of -5% in 2020, finding a workable approach that is predictable is important.

This submission discusses the key assumptions in the Treasury modelling and the inherent views associated with these assumptions. It describes the safeguards needed to provide confidence to the business community and to the broader community that Australia can take action to reduce global emmissions in a way that does not put Australia's economy or jobs at risk.

The submission incorporates a report by Deloitte Access Economics titled ‘Fiscal Risks of the Clean Energy Future Package’.
