Submission to the Climate Change Authority Review of the Renewable Energy Target

24 September 2012

The Business Council of Australia has provided a submission to the Climate Change Authority Review of the Renewable Energy Target.

The review offers the opportunity to consider the overall appropriateness of the RET and to consider ways to minimise the costs associated with the policy.

The BCA outlines in the submission why RET policy should be reviewed in the context of:

  • the development of an effective and efficient energy market
  • the management of the risks associated with climate change
  • the investment environment.

The review should examine ways to reduce upward pressure electricity prices as a result of the RET, while recognising the investments already made as a result of the RET.
