This is the Business Council of Australia’s submission to the Australian Government Consumer Affairs Australia and New Zealand’s Issues Paper consulting on the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) Review.
The Business Council submission supports a national approach to consumer law and suggests improvements to the ACL in these areas:
- greater clarity about the duration of guarantees
- opportunities for businesses to rectify a ‘major failure’
- more efficient reporting requirements, in particular reducing the state and commonwealth duplication of food reporting
- a nationally consistent approach to product safety regulation.
