Submission on the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Amendment Bill 2014

27 May 2014

The Business Council of Australia supports the government’s intention to commence the crediting and purchasing elements of the Emissions Reduction Fund following the repeal of the clean energy legislation.

This approach reduces the risks and compliance costs for business associated with having to comply with multiple emission reduction policies.

The government will now undertake further consultations of the safeguard aspects of the ERF. These consultations are a critical step in ensuring a workable approach which will provide confidence to business and the community.

The BCA remains of the view that the legislation should not include a ‘make-good provision’ on top of a non-payment clause.
