“We welcome the work by Deloitte Access Economics in conjunction with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation to put a value on one of Australia’s most marvelous natural assets,” Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“While most Australians would already appreciate the Great Barrier Reef as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, it is worth being reminded of the substantial contribution it makes to the economy, including by supporting 64,000 jobs.   

“The report will serve as an important resource to inform future policy settings, to protect its economic future, and to better educate individuals, businesses and governments about the holistic value of this Australian icon.”
