Supplementary submission to the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements
31 July 2020

This sense of being embedded in communities led BCA members to respond to the 2019-20 bushfires with a sense of urgency. Members committed to two initiatives in January 2020.
The Australian Volunteer Support Trust is a tax-deductible fund which will provide long-term support for the children of volunteers who die while volunteering.
The Community Rebuilding Initiative, BizRebuild, has a more urgent focus to coordinate the efforts of our members and others to help fire affected communities rebuild. In particular, BizRebuild helps businesses in fire affected communities get back on their feet.
As the Chair of the Community Rebuilding Initiative, Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC(Mil) CVO MC (Ret’d) says “Businesses are the glue that keep people in a community. We cannot stand by and allow small and local businesses to fail and communities to fade away.”
