Returning to the CBD and reducing red tape are keys to recovery

The Business Council strongly backs the New South Wales Government’s ongoing efforts to revitalise the Sydney CBD and power the recovery by attracting people and businesses back to the economic heart of the city.

“We need a sustained, united and implementable approach to bringing people back into our cities safely, which will drive jobs, encourage visitors and students and kickstart our economic recovery.

“Today’s Kick-starting Sydney Summit, organised by NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Treasurer Matt Kean, was a great opportunity to share ideas for immediate and longer-term policy proposals to encourage the regeneration of the Sydney CBD.

“We thank the NSW Premier and Treasurer for their ongoing work and collaboration with the business community on ways to restore Sydney to an iconic and attractive destination for people to work, visit and invest in.

“Hosting the summit is just one of the ways that NSW is continuing to lead in the recovery.

“The NSW Government’s extension of changes to planning rules will make it easier to do business across the state and help reinvigorate CBDs.

“The extension to allow 24-hour deliveries in industrial and business zones, in particular, will mean businesses will have access to critical supplies as we ramp up the recovery.

“Coupled with the NSW Government’s $1 billion small business support package, this highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting businesses impacted by the Omicron wave.

“It is clear the NSW government is focussed on working collaboratively with business, listening to their ideas and removing unnecessary and job-killing red tape that was making it harder to do business before the pandemic.’’
