Population and Cities
By mid-century, Australia's economy will double in size and be home to almost 40 million people with our largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne, potentially home to 8 million.
This projected growth creates an opportunity to lift prosperity for all Australians. However it will need to be managed well if we are to improve the quality and sustainability of our economy, our communities and our environment.
We need a well-managed agenda for planning our cities and regions focused on:
- improved cities and regional governance arrangements across the federation
- better long-term integrated planning processes and project approvals, and
- investment in housing, technology, services and infrastructure.
The BCA Secretariat contact for population and cities policy issues is Simon Pryor, Executive Director, Infrastructure and Regulation.
