Globalisation, digitisation and the ageing population are fundamentally changing the knowledge and skills workers will need to be successful in the 21st century. In the face of these changes, Australia's people – our human capital – are a key to economic growth and one of our comparative advantages.
It has never been more important for all Australians to have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills that will allow them to be effective and productive in the jobs and workplaces of the future.
The Business Council of Australia's skills and education policy agenda is focused on creating an education and skills system to:
- equip all Australians to be independent and prosperous in the labour market
- provide people with the skills and knowledge needed to be globally competitive
- build Australia's innovation capacity
- keep pace with changes in the economy.
