Statement by Business Council of Australia chief executive Jennifer Westacott

I pay tribute to former Business Council member Michael Andrew for his steadfast leadership in the business community and his commitment to reform.

As a former member of the Business Council, Michael contributed to a number of committees including on education and skills, Indigenous engagement and business reform. In every role, he brought his considered and compelling intellect. As the chair of the Board of Taxation and later the Black Economy Taskforce, a part of Michael’s legacy will be a fairer and more transparent tax system for all Australians.  

Michael was a friend of mine and a great mentor. Australia has lost a powerful voice for reform and a brilliant business leader. Our public debate will be poorer for Michael’s absence. On behalf of the Business Council of Australia and its members I extend condolences to Michael’s family.
