In our submission to the Independent Review of the Public Governance Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (the Review), the Business Council has made a number of suggestions on how to ensure Australia continues to have an accountable, efficient and transparent government sector:

• Put in place stronger mechanisms to measure and report on the cumulative burden of new and existing regulations
• Provide for clear responsibilities between government agencies
• Engage in genuine policy consultation before policy decisions have been made, and
• Expand the Regulatory Performance Framework so that it applies to all Australian Government entities that have significant dealings with the public.
