Joint Support for Promoting and Improving US Access to Australian Temporary Skilled Work Visas

02 April 2012

The Business Council of Australia has joined with the Australian Industry Group, the US Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia in supporting measures that will assist linking Australian employers with skilled workers in the United States to fill skill shortages in key sectors of the Australian economy.

The measures include a commitment by the Australian Government to facilitate the processing of fully-documented offshore visa applications made in the United States, to grant immediate access to provisional Australian licences on arrival in Australia for specified licensed occupations and to promotional activities within the US.

There is the real potential for skilled US workers to fill genuine, temporary skills gaps in Australia, and for these measures to be a model for future skilled migration arrangements.
