Business welcomes OECD appointment

13 March 2021

The Business Council congratulates Mathias Cormann on his appointment as secretary of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“This well-deserved appointment is confirmation of Australia’s place as a global leader in the campaign for international economic development.

“As Finance Minister Mr Cormann’s unwavering commitment to free trade, an open society and good policy left Australia positioned to manage the challenge of the pandemic, now the OECD will benefit from his thoughtful and consultative leadership.

“Mr Cormann brings to his new role a proven track-record of working effectively with businesses and a thorough understanding of the global rules of trade.

“There are few other leaders in the world who have been as willing to listen to different points of view and come up with a durable, workable solution to economic problems.

“Australian businesses look forward to working with Mr Cormann and the OECD to grow economies across the world, create more opportunities and put the world on the path to recovery.”
