Business welcomes energy policy momentum
20 April 2018
The agreement of state and federal governments to proceed to the detailed design stage for a National Energy Guarantee will help build certainty, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said today.
“This agreement gives real momentum to the development of a workable national energy framework which will give businesses the certainty and confidence they need to make investment decisions.
“It’s great to see positive progress being made and a timetable set for August, meaning that state and federal ministers can focus on planning for a National Energy Guarantee.
“We need a fit-for-purpose, durable framework which will help to achieve the affordable, secure and reliable energy system Australians expect, while meeting the country’s emissions reduction targets. The Guarantee, as proposed, will deliver that.
“Federal, state and territory governments must now work together quickly and in good faith to resolve issues central to the Guarantee’s design, support the implementation of the Guarantee and give business the certainty it desperately needs.
“Business stands ready to work with all levels of government and the Energy Security Board throughout the detailed design phase to get the design of the Guarantee right and put to an end a decade of policy paralysis.”
