Business Council statement: NSW action plan to accelerate research and development

25 January 2021

The Business Council welcomes the Berejiklian government’s blueprint to proactively accelerate research and development in NSW by encouraging greater investment and collaboration to create new jobs in new and emerging industries.

Making our research and development system work even better will be critical as Australia emerges from the pandemic.

Unprecedented collaboration across the whole community helped get Australia through the pandemic, by continuing to work together to develop and deliver new products and technologies we can position ourselves for the future.

The government’s blueprint for R&D reform will help make NSW the best place in the country for businesses who want to invest, expand and create new jobs.

Combined with the state’s world leading management of the virus and job creation-focussed budget, this helps put NSW at the front of the pack when it comes to attracting the new investment we need to create new jobs and world leading industries.

The action plan outlines five priority actions that will harness the potential of R&D, including turbocharging the NSW precinct model that has already demonstrated success in attracting global companies, driving collaboration between our universities, research organisations and industry of all sizes and delivering jobs for NSW.

We congratulate the NSW government for setting the example and leading the way on reform.
