The Chief Executive of the Business Council of Australia, Katie Lahey, has paid tribute to the outgoing head of Leighton Holdings Limited, Wal King AO, for his clear and forthright contribution to public policy debate in Australia.

Having joined the BCA in 1989, Mr King is the BCA’s longest-serving member and has served as a both a Director of the BCA Board and a member of its steering committee on the building and construction industry.

“Wal’s contribution to the Australian construction industry over a long period is widely acknowledged,” said Ms Lahey. “Members of the BCA have appreciated his straight-talking style and the courageous way he is prepared to speak out on important public policy issues, particularly infrastructure and workplace relations reform.

“Wal has helped to promote and explain BCA principles, and we have valued the global outlook he brings to our deliberations.

“I know that I speak for the whole membership in wishing Wal the very best for the future, and in saying that meetings without him are sure to be far less entertaining.”
