Garma 2016

This year the Business Council helped host a group of 50 Business Council representatives and Indigenous leaders as part of a joint Business Council/Jawun business leaders’ delegation to the Garma festival in North-East Arnhem Land. It’s our second year of sending a delegation to Garma.

Garma has grown to become an important national event, an opportunity for Indigenous, political and business leaders to shape a prosperity agenda for Indigenous Australians.

This year was a particularly significant Garma, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (1976) and the historic national discussion about constitutional recognition.

Business Council Chief Executive Jennifer Westacott chaired a panel at the Key Forum on Corporate Australia and Indigenous Economic Development, together with Peter Nash (KPMG), David Lindberg (Westpac) and Mark Smith (Perpetual).

In addition, the Business Council hosted side sessions on target setting in Indigenous procurement, Indigenous health and Indigenous carbon projects.
