Submission to the Tasmanian Climate Change Office Responding to Part Two of the Review of the Climate Change (State Action) Act 2008

August 2012

This submission is in response to Part Two of the independent Review of the Climate Change (State Action) Act 2008 initiated by the Tasmanian Climate Change Office in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
The world has changed considerably since the Act was passed, most notably with the introduction of a national carbon pricing mechanism. This will be the primary means of achieving the goal of reducing Australia’s emissions by 5 per cent from 2000 levels by 2020.
In pursuing the objective of emissions reduction, a key assessment of any proposal is whether it enables emissions reduction at least cost to the economy.
