Submission to the Department of Employment on Improvements in the Model Work Health and Safety Laws
Submission to the Department of Employment on the Issues Paper and Consultation Regulation Impact Statement Examining Improvements in the Model Work Health and Safety Laws
This submission makes several suggestions to reduce business costs and improve health and safety ahead of a full review of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws scheduled for 2016.
The submission observes that over the past few decades, Australian governments have been working to improve work health and safety while reducing regulatory costs by harmonising state and territory WHS laws.
However, there is still a need to improve the Model WHS to encourage Victoria and Western Australia to sign up. Also, more can be done to implement risk-based approaches to the enforcement and administration of the national model WHS laws.
