The NBN Needs a Cost–Benefit Analysis

June 2010

The BCA recently made a submission to the federal government on the released NBN Implementation Study.

BCA Policy Director Maria Tarrant was interviewed about the BCA submission on ABC Radio 666 on 1 June 2010.

While high-speed broadband provides benefits to the Australian economy, the NBN Implementation Study raises important questions about the viability of the $43 billion NBN investment and the consistency of the NBN proposal with the government’s competition policy obligations.

In the interview, Maria Tarrant discusses the BCA’s concerns, and in particular emphasises the importance of a cost–benefit analysis of the proposed NBN to demonstrate it is in the national interest.
