Regulation Reform: Comments by Minister Lindsay Tanner
Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner outlines plans by the Rudd Government to streamline business regulation in an article titled ‘Rudd Bid to Take Powers from States’ by Ben Potter, The Australian Financial Review, 25 March 2008.
‘These regulatory reform proposals will help fix the federation. The Business Council is right in pointing out that overlapping and inconsistent regulation makes Australia not one market but nine. We want to remove these impediments to Australia becoming a seamless economy. In keeping with the suggestion from the BCA, implementation plans have been developed for each reform so that progress against agreed timelines can be judged independently. This will provide transparency to what to date has been a black-box process.’
