Katie Lahey on the Importance of Education
In a feature in The Australian Financial Review on 25 February 2008, BCA Chief Executive Katie Lahey discusses the importance of education (in the individual, social and business contexts) in articles titled ‘MBAs Becoming Career Passports’ and ‘A Shift by Degrees’ by Rachel Lebihan.
Katie Lahey: ‘Business has a role and a responsibility to be involved in education, including input into curriculum, employing graduates, identifying skills shortages and serving on university councils. However, business doesn’t always find it easy to engage in the academic world. The language, time frames and drivers are often different and business leaders can struggle to add value … We’ve suggested a focus on strengthening teaching and on learning the employability skills needed for effective leadership management.’
