Reining in Government Spending

The Business Council of Australia and market economists have called on the government to slash spending in the May budget in order to reduce strain on the economy, which is operating at close to capacity.

After a high-spending election campaign, the government must cool inflationary pressures by offsetting as much as possible of its spending promises. The Business Council of Australia applauded the move as it leaves room for business expansion, but the BCA is also aware the government is in a tight spot.
