Making Work Safe
4 June 2007
Business is committed to the elimination of deaths and injuries in the workplace. Achievement of this objective requires effective risk management systems, working environments where everyone is committed to safety, and the establishment of legal, regulatory and administration systems which encourage safe work.
Despite best intentions, the OHS laws and policies currently in place across Australia cause, in varying degrees, confusion and impediments to the establishment of a safe workplace. A number of businesses and industry associations, including the BCA, have got together to discuss the current position, to share learnings and to propose a way forward.
This discussion paper, Making Work Safe, outlines the key findings from this work. We hope that this will contribute to constructive debate about Australia’s OHS systems and will lead to action which will help deliver safer workplaces for all Australians.
