COAG and Economic Reform
The reform council will act as an umpire in the next wave of national economic reforms, taking over from the National Competition Council, which oversaw the competition reforms of the 1990s. The so-called ‘third-wave’ reforms are aimed at removing overlap in state and federal management of health, education and business and the benefits are estimated to be as high as $9 billion a year, according to the Business Council of Australia.
